Setting Up The Pen Scanner

If you chose the pen component during the WuliWare installation process, you will find a WuliPen shortcut on your desktop as well as in your Start menu ( Start -> Program Files -> WuliWeb -> WuliPen.

Before you use your pen for the first time, you must configure your COM port settings. Make sure the pen cradle is attached to a serial port on your computer and, if you use a Palm-style device, that the HotSync application is not running. (The HotSync applications for Palm OS devices monopolize the COM ports on a computer and prevent other devices, such as the Symbol pen, from using them.) Click the PORT SETUP button on the WuliPen application. You will be presented with a choice of available COM ports. Pick the one corresponding to the serial port you attached the Pen cradle to (probably COM 1).

[The software currently does not remember your previous port settings, so if your cradle is connected to a port other than COM 1, you must go through the port setup process each time you execute WuliPen.]

To upload barcodes from your pen, press the button on your pen, place it in the cradle, and quickly press the UPLOAD button on the WuliPen application. You will be prompted for your WuliWeb user name and password, and presented with a dialog indicating that your barcodes were uploaded. To clear barcodes from the memory of your pen, press the button on your pen, place it in the cradle and quickly press the CLEAR button on the WuliPen application.
