PRESS RELEASES
WRITTEN FOR TORPEDO, A DANCE CLUB IN MIAMI BEACH'S SOUTH BEACH

Press Release, released April 12, 1990 for the Grand Opening

TORPEDO - IT'S MORE THAN A DANCE CLUB BUT LESS THAN A SHOPPING MALL!

Rising from the southernmost tip of the Deco District comes TORPEDO, Miami Beach's brand-new dance club. With the hottest interior made from the coolest metals, TORPEDO will hit the Beach harder than Hurricane Donna!

TORPEDO, located at 634 Collins Avenue at Sixth Street, is the creation of Lee Brian Schrager, Miami's famed 'gala guru'. Joining Schrager in this venture is John Jacobus, owner of the New York-based clothing firm JJNY. Together, they have found a hole on the Beach and filled it with a big, comfortable place where snowbirds and beachcombers can meet and greet.

TORPEDO's official opening night is Saturday, April 28, 1990. Festivities will begin, however, on Thursday and Friday, April 26 and 27, when TORPEDO opens its doors, by invitation only, for the South Florida premiere of THE INDOMITABLE SPIRIT, he renown photographic exhibit that celebrates optimism and bravery in the era of AIDS. Recently profiled in The New York Times and People magazine, this traveling portfolio was organized by Photographers + Friends United Against AIDS. All proceeds from the exhibit will benefit the American Federation for AIDS Research (AmFar) and Miami's Health Crisis Network (HCN) which provides psycho-social support and assistance to persons with AIDS.

April 28 is T-Day, when TORPEDO will open to the public at 8:00 PM. As a special morsel, TORPEDO will host the premiere South Florida engagement of the sizzling hot Del Rubio Triplets. Recently featured on The Phil Donahue Show and Oprah!, these stars of stage, screen and vinyl will launch TORPEDO into the stratosphere as they belt out songs from their debut album "Three Gals, Three Guitars." The weekend festivities will culminate on Sunday, April 29 with a very special tribute to another "gal", Miss Lucille Ball. Partake from our Bite After The Beach Cuban Buffet (as provided by Miami Beach's historic Puerto Sagua Restaurant, sign up for our Ricky Ricardo look-a-like contest and laugh at our special video tribute (as provided by the dashing Michael T), as we commemorate her date with the Grim Reaper on this date just one year ago.

So prepare yourself for the last week in April, when all the chatter will erupt into an explosion that will propel TORPEDO to dizzying heights in the blithe spirit of South Florida.
